Out Patient Detox

Most detoxification needs to be done in the hospital. This depends again on the assessment that initially was done by the CDP (chemical dependency professional).

Psychiatric medications such as ativan, klonopin, ambien can develop tolerance in the individual where the same dose does not produce the same effects and people are tolerant to the medication and need more and more of the medication which can cause problems/addiction. Some people are experiencing tolerance or extreme side effects to psychiatric medications.

This could range from anxiety, to insomnia medications. The point is that there is an imbalance occurring with tolerance to the medications and they no longer work effectively or have created other side effects. Such as weight gain, insomnia, anxiety or fatigue.

Diane Hutcheson, ARNP, works in conjunction with theroadback.org and Jim Harper to help people who want help with these problems related to medication side effects. This does not mean that people are taken off of their medication willy nilly without considering their need to have their neurotransmitters balanced. It means that the body is out of balance and the balance needs to be restored. Sometimes the only answer is medication but it can be done with as few side effects or related problems as possible.
